"I believe that objective-targeted education and training can help right across the public policy field, from policy development and leadership, through to policy implementation and delivery. From government through to public service provision. From white paper planning through to target group mobilisation."
TRAINER, FACILITATOR, CONSULTANT
As a trainer, consultant and facilitator, my work is centred around the needs of public policy organisations and professionals. Specialising in working with people and organisations in the public policy arena – whether in government, international organisations and associations, NGOs or others with an interest in public policy – my goal is to help people to address public problems, create public value, deliver public services or otherwise have an impact in the public domain.
I am particularly passionate about the way that government and civil society can use education and training to have an impact in public policy. I have worked with public policy organisations across Europe to train employees and service users, to transfer knowledge and skills, and to facilitate progress and change.
Training A trainer, workshop facilitator and consultant for international education projects, I have designed training interventions for public-policy objectives, and have worked with public services across Europe to train employees and service users, to transfer knowledge and skills, and to facilitate behavioural change. I have extensive experience in teaching English and business communications, and have worked across the public policy sphere - from senior government officials and NGO leaders, to prisoners and labour market service clients.
Facilitating I work with groups in fields as diverse as education and justice policy, and my experience of group facilitation has been both from an internal and external perspective. Much of my work has revolved around European collaboration and with organisations in multilateral European projects. Through professional training and practical experience, I have developed skills in facilitative listening, which I can use to engage participants and improve participation, maintaining an effective and inclusive discussion and ensuring that all opinions and perspectives can be taken into consideration. I place a high value on creative thinking and idea stimulation, and enjoy helping groups and individuals to find collaborative solutions to address common problems or objectives. I do not only practice facilitation and group work, but I also offer training in presenting, negotiating and skills for holding meetings in English.
Consulting I can provide support in the development, implementation and evaluation of grant-funded projects. I worked for a number of years developing and managing EU-funded projects, and designed training for European National Agency staff on encouraging sustainable impacts from EU-funded projects, and I am currently the appointed Projects Officer of the European Prison Education Association (EPEA). I am particularly interested in supporting projects to achieve a lasting impact on target groups, and thereby to contribute to the effective achievement of public policy goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
I have a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Policy and Management, from the University of London's Centre for Financial and Management Studies, and a Bachelor of Art (BA) in Law and Criminology from the University of Kent in the UK. I have also been awarded the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) qualification.
I am currently working towards a PhD in English and American Studies, exploring the use of English in government and public policy contexts - something which will further help me to support public policy clients with international communication and English-language services.
